Der Simplon

Der Simplon

Oct 13, 2006
The most important Alpine pass in the Oberwallis. Stockalperweg and A9: with 2008 metres above sea level, one of the deepest lying alpine passes of the main alpine comb. Two men play an important role in this pass: Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper and Napoleon. One of them needed to make the alpine crossing to earn money, the other, for military reasons. One of them became rich because of der Simplon, the other never got to see it. However, both recognised the enormous strategic meaning of this pass and developed it accordingly with the needs of the time.
