Galtür

2006-10-24

The first settlers in Galtür were Reatoromans from Engadin. There are many Reatoroman field names and even the term Galtür derives from „Cultura“. The Walser immigration is seldom so well documented as for Galtür. According to the judge Jakob Moser from Nauders the Waler were brought up “in Cultura” for the first time in 1320. Parochial the village belonged to the rectorate Ardez (Steinsberg) in Unterengadin. Civic it belonged to the court Nauders as the whole Unterengadin. Galtür is the most eastern of all Walesr communities , the one that it furthest away from the original homeland Rotten in Valais and the only one situated in Tirol.
