Tourism

2006-10-13

At the turn of the 19th to the 20th century summer visitors used the villages for recreation. A few years later winter visitors discovered the Walser valleys as areas with snow guaranteed.

Turismo

The initial strong development experienced a sudden end with World War II. Only since 1948 a kind of renaissance took place and the fast development in tourism lead to a change in the Walser regions. Modern hotels, guesthouses, ski lifts, swimming pools, hiking routes and more comfortable infrastructure was built in the rural settlements. Some of the Walser municipalities became internationally known tourist regions due to their high standards and popularity. Today, tourism is one of the most important branches of the economy in the Walser settlements.

The development from rural village to today’s host represents an enormous effort from the population. The Walser therefore contributed an important part to Vorarlberg’s tourism development and its added value.
